Emmanuelle is a visual artist based in Reykjavik. She is the co-director and studio manager of Listastofan.
Emmanuelle Hiron, french artist born in 1983, lives and works in Reykjavík.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Laval, a Master of Fine Arts in Rennes and a licence of cultural mediation in Paris. After a CAPES fine arts formation and work experience in schools, cultural centers and museums, currently she is teaching at Alliance française in Reykjavík. During her studies, consecutively she experimented in photography, video, installation and performance. Then, she turned to drawing, sculpture and modeling in 2008.
Her work forges links between elements of nature and it highlights the fragility of existence. We discover some characters evolving between the earth and sky, traced with a fine point pencil in interweaving lines or composed with natural materials, bones and shells. Her last creations are populated by strange white birds that proliferate on scratchboard, twirling, falling to gradually find an escape. She develops a detailed graphic with repetitive and invasive forms that look like fractal structures.
Since 2014, Emmanuelle extended this dreamlike and humanistic world with ceramics and began a more refined practice between Scandinavian design and cabinets of curiosities. Statues and birds skulls, elements from the vanities and organisms of all kinds gradually descend ladders to turn into thorough porcelain jewelry mounted on fine gold (necklaces, earrings and brooches). Fascinated by the myths, the great outdoors, insularity and contrasts, Iceland is today a real inspiration. Emmanuelle poetically pursues her reflection on the cycle of life and death, and the desires that bind us.
