Further Information

I have been practicing sea swimming and saunas for many years and never tire of marvelling and recommending its benefits to anyone who asks - and also those who don’t ask! It was love at first sight when I first saw a sauna from Scandinavian Sauna in a British newspaper article on a list of the best mobile saunas in the UK and before I knew it I was having a coffee with the company owner and designer in Denmark and followed by a sauna session in their backyard sauna. After that there was no turning back and now the Kría fargufa is finally coming to Iceland to the pleasure and delight of sauna-loving people!

Kría fargufa is currently under construction in Poland, from where it will be transported to Denmark and onwards to Iceland. The crowdfunding will be used to finance Krían's trip to Iceland and prepare for its opening in the spring. I look forward to welcoming you to Kría mobile sauna or Kría fargufa as it´s called in Icelandic!

Rejuvenating activity

It is no surprise that the popularity of saunas in Iceland has increased rapidly in recent years. It is a unique feeling to sit in a beautiful sauna and listen to the sound of crackling of firewood in the stove in a group of good friends. In addition, enjoying the beautiful view and the sea or water right outside and to cool down the body every now and then makes this activity truly enjoyable. Body and soul are refreshed by the contrast of the heat and the cold, which is why it is so easy to get addicted to saunas. Saunas and cooling have a positive effect on body and soul, and the benefits of doing both are undeniable. Saunas are believed to reduce the risk of high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and reduce pain and inflammation. Sea bathing and cold baths are also believed to strengthen the immune system and improve sleep. Alternating saunas and cooling is therefore a recipe for well-being and improved health.

The new pub

What is special about Kría fargufa is that it emphasizes the simplicity of sauna bathing and good company. The role model for Kría fargufa is the Finnish sauna culture, and each guest enjoys the sauna on their own terms (wearing swimsuits) and controls their time inside and outside the sauna. Kría fargufa has a hygrometer, thermometer and hourglass to measure the temperature and time spent in the sauna at any given time. In the UK, people say that mobile saunas are the new pubs, where people meet and chat in the sauna, enjoying the company and relaxing the body and soul in the process. And in today's busy and hectic world, that's exactly what we all need to do more of. More sauna and less stress!

Cards for individuals and groups

A single session in Kría fargufa is one hour and can be booked for individuals and groups of six. There will also be six-session cards and twelve-session cards available and they are valid for both the buyer of the card and their group. For example, an individual with a six-session card can either attend the sauna six times or invite five friends with them for one hour in Kría fargufa. A twelve-session card is also valid for twelve single sessions, or twice for a group of six. When groups of six book in Kria fargufa, the group has the sauna to themselves. However, the sauna host is always on site, welcoming guests and does a safety briefing with them and gives good advice. Water and snacks will be available for all guests and guests can also relax and enjoy the outdoor area before and after the sauna.

Kría fargufa´s facilities in Gufunes

Kría fargufa will be located close to the old pier in Gufunes, where there is good access to the sea via a small beach. Gufunes is an unpolished diamond in Grafarvogur in Reykjavík, but the area is popular among those who live and work there and is rapidly growing. Kría fargufa is manufactured by the Danish company Scandinavian Sauna and built in Poland and will be the first mobile sauna from Scandinavian Sauna in Iceland. Mobile saunas from Scandinavian Sauna are very popular in the UK, Ireland and more countries, but they are exceptionally well designed and the design is in accordance with European regulation. Kría fargufa has a wood heating stove from Harvia in Finland. Kría fargufa has a changing room in front of the sauna where guests can change clothes before and after the sauna and the lighting can be controlled both in the changing room and in the sauna.

Big decisions were made under the crackling sound of the wood burning in the sauna stove and with drops of sweat on foreheads in the four-person private sauna in the backyard of Scandinavian Sauna HQ, which my great friend Sigrún and I got to try out when we visited them last year.
