This is the first sketch of Gustaf. He has come a long way from this to what he is today. A cute cartoon figure that moves and speaks.

These are Gustaf's friends. The Old Tufted puffin is Albert, he is very wise, then Gustaf's best friend Theodor and he is an oystercatcher, then there are the brothers, the Seagull brothers, Steven, Sven and Seamore.

When Gustaf the puffin was born

One day in July 2014, my self(Anna), Gabriele, his brother and sister in-law went to explore a part of the south-east of Iceland.

We saw the beautiful waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss and then we decided to drive up to Dyrhólaey. I knew that Stephanie, Gabriele‘s sister in-law would be very surprised. I knew there were puffins there but none of the others knew that. Stephanie really wanted to see puffins up close.

When we came on the island (Dyrhólaey) there were a lot of people and puffins. Puffins flying around, some fishing and others just posing for all the cameras that were pointed at them.

It was a really great experience.

Below the sightseeing place there is a large beach, a beach full of pebbles. Over the beach is a very high and black wall of rock, a black cliff. In this black cliff the puffins make their nests in holes. Thats how they raise their young and teach them to fly.

We took a lot of pictures and you some of them are on the page.

On our drive back to Reykjavik, I (Anna) got an idea. I started to think about all the great cartoons made for kids and I could not think of any that had a puffin as the lead character.

So I (Anna) said: Hey, why not make a series for kids with a puffin as the main caracter?

And that's how Gustaf the puffin was born. On highway number one in Iceland, driving from Dyrhólaey back to Reykjavík.

We are also very happy to tell you that every episode of Gustaf the puffin will take place in Iceland. His home is in Dyrhólaey and he will encounter all kinds of adventures on his journey from being a tiny little baby puffin to his teenage years.
We are very proud of being able to show to the world all the amazing beautiful places in Iceland.

Gustaf the puffin – pilot episode -The abridgment

Gustaf is an orphant.

One day his parents went out to fish and never came back.

He was very tiny when this happened and kept to him self in his hole were his parents had been raising him. Thankfully an old tufted puffin named Albert saved him.

In the pilot show Gustaf is a bit bigger and he has gained one good friend, Albert the old tufted puffin.

Albert took him in and started to teach him about life as a puffin.

Gustaf is still learning how to fly and still has not been able to fish on his own.

In the blackcliffs where Gustaf lives with his friend Albert, also live 3 brothers, the seagull brothers. Most of the time they are up to no good and tease Gustaf for being an orphant.

Gustaf makes a good friend on the beach, his name is Theodor and he is an oystercatcher or Tjaldur as we call them in Icelandic.

Theodor is not a bird that swims and all he does on the beach is searching for food and play. Gustaf and Theodor have almost the same colors so Gustaf relates a lot to his little friend and since Theodor never swims, Gustaf can‘t see why he has to learn.

We are mostly introducing the birds that live on Gustafs beach in the pilot show and how they connect to each other through friendship.

Here we are on our way to Dyrhólaey to see the puffins last July, 2014.

My name is Anna and I am Icelandic. Gabriele is from Italy. We meet in Iceland early this year 2014. We had a great first date and have been together ever since. It Must Be Love :)

Gabriele has a lot of experience with animation but I have none. However I have a great imagination and I am a good writer. I will be writing the pilot episode for Gustaf the puffin. Gabriele has drawn our cute puffin from the first idea - sketch (see above) to the character he is today. Amazing right ?

Now we and Gustaf the puffin need your help to make all his friends come alive and to make our dream come true.
