The blood that she spills and the blood that she shares – a film about a fighter.
(English version below)
Myndin fjallar um unga konu að nafni Sól, sem er að safna sér fyrir námi erlendis.
Hún er meðvirkt peð eldri systur sinnar, Bríetar, sem leigir Sól út sem “mennskan boxpúða” sem útrás fyrir blæti ýmissa skuggalegra karla.
Meðan á þessu stendur liggur móðir Bríetar og Sólar, fárveikur alkóhólisti, á sjúkrahúsi í dái eftir hjartaáfall.
Myndin endar með blóðugu uppgjöri milli systra. Mun Sól komast úr þessum skaðlegu aðstæðum og öðlast frelsi frá stjórn fjölskyldu sinnar?
Sól is an action-drama, epitomized with the dark and cynical humor so inherent in Icelandic culture.
It tells the story of a young girl by the name of Sól, who is trying to save up money for her college education abroad. She is a co-dependent pawn of her sister’s, Bríet, who rents Sól out as a “human punching bag”. This in turn serves as an outlet for a number of shady men who’s fetish or need is to beat on a woman with no consequences.
Although the two sisters share a certain calmness they are extremely different; Sól being the younger, more passive but more physical, and Bríet the authoritarian provider, borderline sociopathic older sibling.
Meanwhile the mother of the two lies in a coma at a hospital, the result of a lifelong struggle with alcoholism and substance abuse.
The film results in the bloody culmination between sisters. Will Sól get away from the mental, and physical, abuse and gain some freedom and independence?
The film will be shot in a very realistic style, but with dark and dramatic shadows and a strong Neo-Noir influence, while retaining the Alkul films beauteous shooting style, with long and fluid motions of the camera and a strong emotional impact on the viewer.
