When it became clear that it was not possible to organise concerts or other live music events during the Covid pandemic, Vökufélagið decided to focus on video production in order to preserve and share the living traditions of Icelandic folk song.
People who are curious about Icelandic singing traditions find that there is little to be seen on the internet, both in terms of performance and education. The Kyndilberar series is Vökufélagið's first contribution to improving this situation, with the production of seven high quality videos, each one featuring one song performed by highly regarded performers who are carrying the flame forward to future generations.
Vökufélagið is now proud to present the Kyndilberar video series at a world premiere screening at Bíó Paradís in Reykjavík on Saturday 14th of May.
The Kyndilberar performers are:
Ragga Gröndal and Bára Grímsdóttir
Ingimar Halldórsson
Rósa Þorsteinsdóttir
Chris Foster and Linus Orri
Magnea Einarsdóttir
Elín Bryndís Snorradóttir and Ásta Sigríður Arnardóttir
Örlygur Kristfinnsson and Árni Hjartarson
The Kyndilberar production team is:
Linus Orri Gunnarsson Cederborg, director
Chris Foster, producer
Snorri Þór Tryggvason, camera and editing
