THE STORY
Down & Out was formed in the small town of Húsavík, North-east Iceland, in the eighties, by two childhood friends. The town had an astonishingly vibrant music scene at the time and the duo was at its centre. They made primitive cassette recordings of their peculiar music and released the last one publicly, a collector’s item today.
Now, thirty years later, we decided to make some of the material more easily available. So we booked a studio and rerecorded a kind of “best of” from the archives, for a more serious release.
THE PROCESS
The intervening three decades have been eventful. The duo became the trio “Ljótu hálfvitarnir” (The Ugly Morons), and the trio became a nonet some fifteen years ago. That band is still going strong. Now, when the prehistoric part of the Morons rises again, it enjoys more than a little help from their mates. All the other members lend a hand, as do other, non-moronic, friends. A fellow Moron, Baldur Ragnarsson, produces, records, and plays a bewildering number of instruments.
THE FUNDING
We’re crowdfunding the recording of the music and the production of the physical copies. To achieve that we have put together a number of pledges with all kinds of exciting rewards for those willing to help us achieve our goals.
