Further Information

I grew up healthy and active. Most of my childhood summers were spent traveling with my mother in the highlands of Iceland, one of the most scenic places on the planet. I later returned to some of these places working as a warden in a few of Iceland’s nature reserves, established to protect the country from industrial greed, short sightedness, and ignorance.

When I was around 24 years old I started to lose control of my mobility. Slowly at first but more rapidly as time progressed until, four years later, I was unable to even lift my head from the pillow on my bed. My decline eventually stopped and since then, through strenuous exercise, I’ve been able to reclaim some of what I lost with invaluable assistance from the rehabilitation centre Reykjalundur.

Though my health may be lacking I’ve done what I can to remain active. I refuse to take the easy road, wasting my life sitting around doing nothing. Amongst many other things I have taken up painting, using my mouth to hold the brush, and helped to bring the 3D printing revolution to Iceland. It is for one of these projects that I ask for your help.

The project

This summer I intend to test the limits of my abilities by returning to the beautiful places of my youth. There I will channel my love of the Icelandic highlands into my art and document my experiences with video as well as gathering aerial footage of these places with a quadrocopter drone equipped with a GoPro camera. I would also like to make a documentary about the adventure with this material but at the very least I will gather images of some of Iceland’s most beautiful places that show them in ways never before seen.

The project will culminate with an exhibition in January of next year where I will showcase the project’s results, both paintings and video, for everyone to enjoy.

What I need

- A few GoPros to document the adventure with video footage.
- Travel expenses, Iceland is expensive on an Icelandic income.
- Food and other such daily necessities.
- Paint materials, those I do not already own.
- I would like to assist in financing the jeep that will take us there, a wonderful friend of mine is giving his time to renovate one of his jeeps to suit my limitations.

If anyone asks me to I will give a full account of everything I buy involving the project
