About MBS Records

MBS Records (Mannfólkið breytist í slím/Mankind Turns Into Slime Records) is an Icelandic DIY record label, a collaboration between musicians from Akureyri that used to share a practice facility and studio some years ago. They have been releasing music as a collective through MBS records since 2010. Characterized by brotherhood and non-profit work, MBS strives for free musical expression and has since it’s formation released over a dozen records, of which only three have been physically released. Work is well underway to release it’s fourth album in physical form, ‘Draumar hverfa skjótt’ by Á geigsgötum, and have it pressed on pitch-black vinyl. But for that to become reality we need some help and support!

Á geigsgötum

Á geigsgötum is an experimental project, founded in Akureyri, Iceland. The first album ‘Verið Velkomin’, which was released in 2013, was a lo-fi solo album by Ingi Jóhann Friðjónsson. Since then Á geigsgötum has developed into a semi-functional studio project with various artists with diverse backgrounds, ranging from post-rock and horror punk to doom metal and dark wave. Their first full length album ‘Draumar hverfa skjótt’ was recorded between 2015-2020. The album was released the first day of winter in Iceland on October 24th through MBS Records.

Á geigsgötum’s music is sincere and written to lure the listener into a certain mindset that consists of imbalance and a constant struggle of uncontrollable forces. The music’s essence is cold and inspired by the northern hemisphere’s short days and melancholy, driven by uncertainty, doubt and misconceptions and the lyrics fluctuate between nihilistic tendencies and emotional meaning.

Draumar hverfa skjótt

The songs on the album were written between 2010 and 2015 (when Ingi was 18-23 years old) - some were featured on the debut album 'Verið velkomin', while others are new. The new material was mostly written by Ingi but the songs 'Draumadöf' and 'Horfðu í eldinn' were written by the band. The recording process was on and off from 2015, and now almost five years later to the day, the end result is ready.

The recording lineup of the band was as follows:

Ingi Jóhann Friðjónsson (Völva - Hindurvættir - Darth Coyote - Brák) - Singer - bass - guitar - synths - drums

Stefán Bessason - Guitar

Þórir Óskar Björnsson (Dulvitund - Naught) - Guitar

Jón Arnar Kristjánsson (Andavald - Mannveira - Skrattar - Naught) - Drums

Á geigsgötum 2020

'Draumar hverfa skjótt' was recorded by Hreggviður Huldu Harðarson and Þorsteinn Kári Guðmundsson (Þorsteinn Kári - Buxnaskjónar - Brák) as well as being mixed and mastered by Þorsteinn Kári. Þorsteinn also contributed several instrumental recordings on the album during post-production, adding guitars, synths, backing vocals and percussion. Recording engineer Hreggviður played synths on the tracks ‘Rýkur úr’ and ‘Draumadöf’. Benedikt Natanael Bjarnason (Hindurvættir, Offerings, Azoic, Beneath and many more) sang backing vocals in Rýkur úr.

About the pledge

In this crowdfunding campaign individuals as well as companies have the opportunity to support MBS’ and Á geigsgötum’s first vinyl release. They can pledge for a reward and elude their unavoidable transformation into slime! Another option is buying the split CD ‘Vísdómur risans/Hrímland’ by the MBS bands Völva and Hindurvættir which was released 2013 (only 6 copies remaining out of the original 100). A download code for Draumar hverfa skjótt is also available via e-mail. A pledge for the vinyl version is available for pick-up in Akureyri or Reykjavík and we also offer worldwide shipping. Prints from Á geigsgötum’s first singles, made by the band’s guitarist Stefán Bessason can also be bought with or without a vinyl record. Only 14 prints were made and all are numbered and signed by the artist.

Opinn dagur í Gúlaginu

Apart from being a record label MBS also hosts the annual music festival Opinn dagur í Gúlaginu in Akureyri. The festival’s fourth edition will take place in 2021 and can be supported by pledging for Draumar hverfa skjótt. Opinn dagur í Gúlaginu aims to show the best of North-Iceland’s underground scene and is a non-profit event. The reward for these pledges are VIP access tickets to the festival and companies can pledge to become official sponsors of Opinn dagur í Gúlaginu 2021.
