About the project

It will be a full feature documentary that tells the story of Haukur Hilmarsson. Haukur was known in Iceland as a fighter for the rights of asylum seekers and as a passionate opponent of fascism. For me, Haukur was a big influence in my childhood and a good companion and a dear friend.

We started shooting this film in 2014 and the original idea was to make a film that would cover several decades and take the position of Haukur every few years. Unfortunately, it looks like Haukur fell in Syria in February 2018 as he was fighting for the Kurds.

I decided to start this project a year ago and planned to fund it then, but I soon realized that I was not ready at all. I have done little else in the last year other than go over the recordings that Haukur and I made along with all the other material about him that I have come across.

The plan is to start filming in June 2022 and finish shooting it in August of the same year. The film is expected to be ready in November 2022. The film will only be available to those who supported the campaign at Karolina Fund for the first 3 months of its release.

Two trailers are already out and two more trailers will be out mid January 2022.

The first trailer gives a good insight to what the movie is going to be covering.

The second trailer is very different than the first one. We get to see Haukur on a normal working day and the tune under is a live recording of Haukur performing the No Border song at a venue in Iceland.
