You might say that my whole adult life has in one way or another evolved around search and rescue. It has been my hobby, my profession and borderlining on obsession at times.
As a 16 year old I joined as volunteer in the HSSK rescue team in Kópavogur in the outskirts of Reykjavík. It quickly consumed all my time and 7 years later I started working full time professionally at ICE-SAR, The icelandic association for search and rescue, organizing training for the volunteers in almost 100 teams around the contry. In 2010, while still working at ICE-SAR as director of the Rescue school, I desided it was time to make a carrier change into another passion of mine, photography. Combining my passion for search and rescue and photography I started documenting Icelandic search and rescue from within.
This book is dedicated to ICE-SAR and all my friends there. It is a collection of some of my favorite images from those roughly ten years I have been actively shooting search and rescue in Iceland. It is a collection of images of the way I have both observed and participated in the work of ICE-SAR these last 10 years.
Along with the images there are short stories. Sometimes they tell the story of that particular photoshoot, sometimes of the incident or the people in the image or sometimes simply a few words or thoughts about something related to the image.
So in a way, both the text and images are much like myself. A bit random and a bit caotic but hopefully honest, somewhat informative and at least not boring.
