Our team of artists will travel to Seyðisfjörður, in Iceland's East Fjords region, for two weeks of rehearsals followed by performances on August 23 and 24, 2019 at the newly restored Herðubreið Performing Arts Center. The production is already over 60% funded, through the generous support of institutions including Uppbyggingarsjóður Austurlands, The American-Scandinavian Foundation, Tónlistarsjóður, Afl, Gunnarsstofnun, Menningarstyrkur Fjarðabyggða and Fiskeldi Austfjarða hf.
All contributions will go toward production expenses and artist fees.
Synopsis: When a beautiful woman with a mysterious past arrives in a secluded town, its inhabitants learn that change can be both painful and joyful. Set against the austere majesty of Iceland's East Fjords in the 1890s, this opera explores the intertwined natures of community, survival, and letting oneself love.
