Since I began singing, I have dreamed of recording an album with my favorite songs. The ideas for the final lineup on the album have been a little more difficult for me to wrap my head around, but now, finally, I have come up with the perfect solution. I am very excited about it and the music that will be featured on it. Projects like these are nothing with out the the talented people that come together to create something unique and magical.
With me I have the great pianist Kristinn Örn Kristinsson. We have worked together for a long time, and his sensitivity and interpretation of Icelandic Art Songs is perfect for what I wanted to convey and showcase.
I have enlisted one of my dearest friends and composer Hreiðar Ingi Þorsteinsson to compose a piece for the album. Needless to say I am very excited about it! A powerful piece.
A great fortune was visited upon me when when Kristinn Sigmundsson agreed to sing with me the duett "Sólsetursljóð". Kristinn is a big influence and a great role model. He is one of our greatest classical singers, and is currently perfoming in the worlds largest opera houses.
Oddur Arnþór Jónsson and I were studying at the same time at the Reykjavik Academy of Singing and Vocal Arts. And it was a great joy to meet him again for one of the first duets I ever sang "Á vegamótum". A great fun guy and a wonderful artist.
Sophie Schoonjans, harpist, I have not known for very long, but we collaborated on a project in Skálholt many years ago, and it was a very enjoyable experience. Needless to say I didn't think much about it and am very happy that she was available to do this project with me. Together we perform the title song of the Album "Leiðsla" (Translated "Reverie") and the lullaby "Mamma ætlar að sofna".
One of Icelands greateat actor, Arnar Jónsson, also makes an interesting appearence. The result is truly exciting!
Reverie
Defined in the Oxford Dictionaries as „a state of being pleasantly lost in one's thoughts; a daydream“. In the context ofthe album it is also a magical state, cast upon humans by the elves in order to lead them into their cities in the rockformations of Iceland. A few songs detail such encounters, but others are simply meant to transport us into this wonderful state of Reverie.
I was very lucky, early on in my studies when I received special recognition from Dame Kiri Te Kanawa here in Iceland, and got to sing at one of her concerts. I moved to Germany, after my studies in Iceland and in New York, where I won prizes in big competitions such as Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg and Oper Schloss Laubach which then opened up doors to venues such as Classic Open Air in Berlin with soprano Lucia Aliberti, Gala Concert at the Mercedes World in Berlin and Das Lied von der Erde in Frankfurt and Berlin. I have worked professionally in Germany since 2008. Among roles performed are: Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Caramello and Herzog(Eine Nacht in Venedig), Rodolfo (La boheme), Luzio (Das Liebesverbot), Bobby(Besuch der Alten Dame), Duka di Mantua(Rigoletto), Governor/Vanderdendur/Prince Ragotski(Candide), Alfred(Die Fledermaus), Adam(Der Vogelhändler) and many more. I am most proud of my training that I received in Iceland, New York and Berlin studying only with the best teachers such as: David L. Jones, Janet Williams, Prof.Edwin Scholz and Prof. Wolfgang Millgramm.
I have had private lessons with opera singers: Johan Botha, Reiner Goldberg, Elisabeth Mayer-Topsöe and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
and worked with great conductors such as Martin Fischer-Dieskau, Kevin McCutcheon, Howard Griffiths, and Frank Strobel to name a few.
I have studied for a long time with my dear friend and master teacher David L. Jones, with him I learned how to sing, listen to the voice, and how to diagnose vocal issues. Which has proven useful on every front in my singing and teaching life. I am also currently finishing my teachers degree with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
