Further Information

hearth  (härth)
n.
1. The floor of a fireplace, usually extending into a room and paved with brick, flagstone, or cement.
2. Family life; the home.
3. Metallurgy
a. The lowest part of a blast furnace or cupola, from which the molten metal flows.
b. The bottom of a reverberatory furnace, where ore is exposed to the flame.
4. The fireplace or brazier of a blacksmith's forge.

The Hearth tea light holder series is the most recent project from product designer Ragnheiður Ösp Sigurðardóttir (umemi). The series consists of individual tea light holders (sold separately) that come in four different shapes and colors. Each holder can be taken apart and then mixed and matched with the other Hearth holders to make tons of different outcomes.

The Hearth tea light holders are laser cut and routed from MDF boards and then spray painted in bright and vibrant colors.
They will come individually packed in a hand stamped Kraft gift box.

The pieces for the tea light holders have now been laser cut and are waiting to be painted. The painting process is time consuming and expensive since the pieces are small and painted in 12 different colors and shades.
This project focuses on collecting pledges from people like you to finish the paint job and get the tea light holders ready for retail.

Ragnheiður Ösp is born and raised in a small town by the ocean in Iceland. She studied Product design in Iceland and later in the US with a focus on Japanese Cuteness (Kawaii). She runs her company Umemi in Reykjavík, Iceland and focuses on unique and playful items for the home and the heart.

Notknot
The inspiration for Notknot originally came from scout knotting. After looking through scout, nautical and decorative knots I wanted to play with their sizes and see the outcome of changing their textures and purpose.
The hard and tightly tied knot becomes soft and cozy. Its purpose which is being strong and secure changes to being comforting and warm but at the same time it holds its decorative value.

------- Icelandic description --------

Notknot

Hnútar hafa verið hnýttir í marga tugi þúsunda ára til skemmtunar, nytja og skreytis.
Fyrir Notknot púðann valdi ég fjóra mismunandi hnúta, tvo kínverska skrauthnúta: Round Brocade og Good luck, skátahnút: Turk's head og blómahnút eftir hnútafrumkvöðulinn Clifford W. Ashley sem gaf út bók sína Ashley's book of knots árið 1944.
