Further Information

Our plan is to publish a photography book about a lost astronaut in the highlands of Iceland.

--- Danish and Icelandic description below ---

About "The Lost Astronaut" project
Who are we: Mikkel - coming from Denmark and being freelance writer and model for this project.
Gisli - coming from Iceland and working as professional photographer. Making pictures, editing and video materials for this project.
We have over the last 4 years been working on a short story spiced with professional photos. Our plan is to publish the book in December this year.
The plot of the book:
Thinking about a person arriving from another planet or universe stuck between time and space. He wakes up in Iceland finding dramatic landscapes, elves, trolls, and hidden people. Trying and dreaming to find his way back home. In the book you will get under the skin of the Icelanders, their country and their close relationship with myths and legends.

A little about how the project started:
It all started with Mikkel going on a trip to the US and Russia for a space adventure and an edge of space flight. He came home as an astronaut. In the years after that he and his good friend Gisli went on trips to Iceland every year driving and camping in the mountains of Iceland. Here they brought the astronaut suit with them and the idea was in the beginning to make some surreal pictures with the astronaut in the wilderness of Iceland. On the many trips to Iceland Mikkel, coming from Denmark, got to know the Icelandic culture and people and their thoughts and beliefs. He started to write a diary of his funny and cool experiences and wonderings about Iceland – the nature, the beliefs and the people living there. After some years travelling around Iceland the idea evolved into a bigger project. Now we had so much written material and pictures from our experiences in Iceland. The idea about the Lost Astronaut began. We got more focused on the project with both pictures and written material. The idea evolved into a much bigger project. Mikkel started researching and the writing process of the book, Gisli evolved the ideas for pictures to the book and also video materials started to appear. The idea was to show the world the beauty of the dramatic landscapes of Iceland. A land of mountains, black deserts, fire, water and ice. At the same time trying to give a glimpse of the Icelandic folklore and the people living in Iceland. The book is based on all our fantastic adventures in Iceland and twisted in a surreal way into a science fiction story, but at the same time keeping it real – very real.

The book is an alternative tourist guide, it is not too long and includes many locations in Iceland that can inspire you to go and explore Iceland further. The target audience for our book are those who like what is a little beside the normal - the twisted - the boundary between fantasy and reality.

We have chosen to work with www.karolinafund.com which helps us to set up a website where people can fund our project and we hope that we can expand our idea and complete the book with the help of you! Through the website of Karolina Foundation you can pay varying amounts of money and thereby buy the book, merchandise, etc. During 50 days, we must reach a minimum amount so we can place the book in production and sale. If you support us with a certain amount and we do not reach the minimum threshold, the money people have pledged will not be taken from people's account and the book will not be published. But if we reach the minimum amount of money you will get the book and the other products you have chosen on the website when you pledged. We decided to use this model because we do not have the capital to publish the book.
Along with this we are planning to make a website for The Lost Astronaut, but it will go online later. For the time being we have created this facebook fan page for The Lost Astronaut, where we show backstage news, videos and photos from our project over the last 4 years.

We sincerely hope you will help us to get our book published. It is a large project with many future opportunities, we really believe in it and we believe that you will understand us when you see the project :-)

Dansk:
