The Weird Girls Project is an ongoing art film series created and produced by concept artist Kitty Von-Sometime which is created to empower the women who take part.

It evolves with each ‘Episode’ which involves volunteer participants who are unaware of anything involved until the day they turn up, this includes the concept, location and costumes.

The women taking part mix between those involved from the beginning and women new to the experience.

Each Episode is planned for approximately three months by Kitty and the crew in secret, and culminates in a day’s shooting which becomes a film.

The main element of the project is ‘release to the unknown’ and apart from the film the Project focuses on the event itself and how the women react, improvise and morph within costume, learning about their power of self combined with the strength of coming together as a group.

The women are varying in ages, backgrounds and experience, and do not necessarily know each other before the day. Usually the Project involves ordinary women rather than professional actresses or models and part of the inspiration was to encourage a gain in self-confidence, especially focusing around body issues and a release of inhibitions.

There have been multiple Episodes in Iceland but recently the Project has gained successful financing abroad in Europe and as far away as China. Without this appeal, the Project will continue to grow abroad without keeping its roots in Iceland, where it was born and developed.

For the women in Iceland who have appealed to take part in the Project the waiting list is up to 2 years as each piece requires funding for costume and equipment. This appeal is for the cost of the location, costume and equipment. All 25 crew members including Kitty are producing this without any pay. The appeal is simply to fund the work itself.

The amount of money in the target would allow around 25 women to take part. There are many more waiting and any financing above this figure would allow for more women to take part.

ICE: The Weird Girls verkefnið er sería af vídeó list sem er sköpuð og framleidd af listakonunni Kitty Von-Sometime og er markmið verkefnisins að efla konurnar sem taka þátt. 

Verkefnið  þróast áfram með hverjum “Þætti” og þáttakendur eru sjálfboðaliðar sem vita ekkert um innihaldið þar til daginn sem þær mæta. Þetta á við um hugmyndina, staðsetninguna og búningana.

Konurnar sem taka þátt eru blanda af þeim sem hafa tekið þátt frá byrjun og þeim sem eru að upplifa verkefnið í fyrsta skipti.

Hver þáttur er skipulagður í leyni í um þrjá mánuði af Kitty og samstarfsmönnum hennar og nær hámarki þegar tekið er upp í einn dag sem verður svo að kvikmynd. 

Undirstöðuatriði verkefnisins er að “leysa hið óþekkta úr læðingi”. Að kvikmyndinni undanskilinni er aðalmarkmið verkefnisins  verkefnið sjálft og hvernig konurnar bregðast við, leika af fingrum fram og breytast í búningunum. Hvernig þær læra um kraft sjálfsins í samblandi við kraftinn sem felst í því að vera saman í hóp.

Konurnar þekkjast ekki endilega innbyrðis, þær eru á ýmsum aldri og bakgrunnur og reynsla eru líka af ýmsum toga. Yfirleitt eru þáttakendur venjulegar konur frekar en leikkonur eða fyrirsætur og hluti af innblæstrinum var að stuðla að auknu sjálfstrausti, sérstaklega varðandi líkamsvitund og að leysa um innri hömlur.

Margir þættir hafa verið gerðir á Íslandi en nýlega hefur verkefnið fengið fjármögnun erlendis frá, bæði frá Evrópu og líka alla leið frá Kína. Án þessarar beiðni mun verkefnið halda áfram að vaxa erlendis en tapa rótunum á Íslandi, þar sem það fæddist og þróðist.

Fyrir konurnar á Íslandi, sem hafa óskað eftir að taka þátt í verkefninu, er biðlistinn kominn upp í tvö ár þar sem hver þáttur þarfnast fjármögnunar fyrir búningum og tækjum. Kitty og 25 samstarfsmenn hennar vinna launalaust. Þessi beiðni er einfaldlega til að fjármagna verkefnið sjálft.

Fyrir upphæðina sem stefnt er að gætu um 25 konur tekið þátt. Margar fleiri bíða eftir þáttöku og myndi allt fjármagn sem safnaðist aukalega gera fleiri konum mögulegt að vera með.
